Voodoo Experience or Voodoo Music Experience is a three day music festival traditionally held the weekend before Halloween in New Orleans, Louisiana's historic City Park since 1999. In 2007, the festival was expanded from two to three days. This year's 2008 festival marks the tenth anniversary for Voodoo named The Tenth Ritual, it will be held on Oct. 24, 25, and 26.
In 2005, Voodoo was the first event to take place in New Orleans after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita flooded 80% of the city. Just six weeks after the storms the festival was held as a free show for the first responders, military, volunteers, and returning residents. The show took place at Audubon Park "Butterfly" and features Nine Inch Nails, Queens of the Stone Age, Secret Machines, The New York Dolls and numerous local bands like Cowboy Mouth and ReBirth Brass Band. Overcoming all odds, Voodoo Experience returned fully to City Park in 2006 with a record-breaking attendance of over 100,000.
Voodoo is known for its blending of high-quality artists from all genres as well as up and-coming and local Louisiana favorites. Music fans travel from across the world to come together in the unique city of New Orleans to experience this musical convergence. Past headliners have included such big acts like Rage Against the Machine, Eminem, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Green Day, Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails, Iggy and the Stooges, 50 Cent, My Chemical Romance, The Flaming Lips, The Pixies, Sonic Youth, The White Stripes, Tool, The Beastie Boys, 311, Social Distortion, as well as bands with New Orleans roots such as The Original Meters, Dr. John, Better than Ezra, Cowboy Mouth, Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue, Kermit Ruffins, Big Sam's Funky Nation, The Preservation Hall Jazz Band, and Dash Rip Rock.
